MAP MoreROOM FOR COLLECTORS + NEW PERSPECTIVES In a series of rotating exhibitions, we showcase the Olbricht Collection, containing works ranging from the early 16th century up to the present day. Selected curators are invited to give us their own perspective on the collection, whose driving focus draws on the core themes of human existence: life, love, eros, transience and death. A set fixture at our venue is the Wunderkammer (or ‘cabinet of art and marvels’), containing works from the Renaissance and Baroque periods. Besides works of art though, other collector’s items are on display, such as rare postage stamps, art nouveau objects and toys. In the café, shop and lounge, visitors can find room to exchange ideas, as well as reflect on and enjoy a sensual experience of art. In 2011 the theme of ‘collecting’ itself is also central to our programme. Besides discussions with international collectors (primarily, but not exclusively, of art), towards the end of the year we will also for the first time be holding reciprocal events with other private art collections. In autumn we will be hosting a show organized by the French collector Antoine de Galbert. At the same time, part of the Olbricht Collection is also on show in its exhibition venue in Paris, “la maison rouge”. May 2011 will see renewed cooperation with “la maison rouge” and the curator Jeanette Zwingenberger with the exhibition “Alles Kannibalen?” ROOM FOR EXCHANGE AND ENGAGEMENT The residential and exhibition building, situated in the immediate vicinity of the Kunst-Werke Berlin, was designed by the architectural firm Düttmann + Kleymann in conjunction with Thomas Olbricht. The generous 1.300 sq m exhibition space enables a division of the room, which invites both a direct engagement with the collection, as well as flexible open spaces for visitors. Behind the high glass façade there are a number of amenities, such as a Café, a Shop and a lounge area, spread across two floors. Ample space then for visitors to exchange ideas about the things they have seen.

MAP MoreNK is an artist run independent non-profit organization that is dedicated to Sound Arts. This project entails a 5 year limited scope, our interest is not in becoming curators and or organizers but in taking part in the creation and support of a “culture”, with a focus on experimental music, which could be defined as unusual, strange, extreme and unique music that pushes against the boundaries or definitions of what is considered musical. To this end we organize public events that promote non-mainstream cultural production, and provide a platform for discussing paradigms in music and its problematics. As musicians working within this field we felt that there was a lack of spaces with a multi-faceted approach in Berlin. By Multifaceted we mean spaces that take into account not only the production of this kind of music but also the theoretical discourse that surrounds it. This kind of discourse takes place during workshops, artist presentations, and our weekly user meetings of Open Source Softwares such as SuperCollider and Pure Data where not only code but ideas and approaches are discussed. As a hybrid space, NK is a meeting point, that attempts to cover the gap between academic institutional spaces and the independent cultural agents of Berlin. We are open to proposals from event organizers and independent curators that fit our vision and expand it.

MAP MoreThe singuhr sound gallery has been an important venue for sound art in Berlin for over ten years now. The nationally and internationally unique project has realised at least 60 audio-visual art exhibits - art that rejects one-dimensional classifications and reflects the individual artistic positions between the poles of music, visual arts and medial arts. The gallery's programmatic spectrum stretches from sound objects and kinetic sculptures to pure sounding spaces, from audio-visual productions to physically tempered and artistically designed rooms. The conceptual parenthesis nurtures the aspiration to present installative sound art - works that are conceived for a certain space and are also realised there. The Parochial Church in Berlin's Mitte district provided the space for this artistic endeavour for a productive ten years. This is now being documented in a catalogue that has been released at Kehrer Verlag: "singuhr sound gallery in parochial - 1996 - 2006". Since 2008 singuhr is partner of ohrenstrand.net. Since June 2007, both historic water reservoirs in Prenzlauer Berg have provided both a source of inspiration and a new home ground for the singuhr sound gallery. The industrial heritage site's unique architecture, its unique acoustics and its location at the centre of a lively neighbourhood have predestined the two repositories to become spaces for innovative artistic projects. The singuhr sound gallery's integrative concept forges links between renowned sound artists and the next artistic generation, between the urban arena and artistic events, between installative and performative forms. For the first time, multiple artists will show their installations simultaneously in different spaces. Works by different generations, groups and individual projects will encounter one another - a selected mix that delivers an overview of the current position of artistic productions within the heterogeneous field of sound art.
